Amazon is strengthening its relationship with India's second-largest retail chain, Future Retail, as the e-commerce giant is growing its presence in one of its key markets abroad.
The two said Monday they signed a long-term business agreement to broaden the scope of Future Retail's stores through the marketplace of Amazon India.
As part of the agreement, Amazon India will become Future Retail stores ' registered online sales platform, including department and grocery store chain Big Bazaar and Foodhall lifestyle food superstore, the two said. In addition, India's second-largest retail chain, attracting more than 350 million footfalls a year across its network, will list its items on Amazon's two-hour Prime Now delivery platform, currently operating in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
Kishore Biyani, Chairman and CEO of Future Retail, said the partnership will "allow us to build on the strengths of each other in physical and digital space so that customers can benefit from the best services, products, assortment, and price."
The two giants said they decided to concentrate on grocery — a segment that Amazon has been focusing on for some time in India — general retail, apparel and accessories, and beauty products.
